A team of Bangladesh Navy recovered a torpedo floating in the canal from the sea at the Rangabali coast in Patuakhali on Monday afernoon.

The members from the BNS Sher-e-Bangla Base in the district recovered the torpedo from the Bhangar canal of Meerkanda village under Moudubi union of the upazila.

Currently, it is being moved to the BNS Sher-e-Bangla base, police officials said.

Rangabali police station officer-in-charge Helal Uddin confirmed the matter and added that no one could confirm from which country it was thrown.

On Monday afternoon, about 27-feet-long and 3-feet-wide tube-shaped object floated to the canal of the Ranglabali coast.

The Navy and the Coast Guard started their operation to rescue and identify the object in the afternoon after it surfaced.

Rangabali police station OC Helal Uddin said that it was identified as a torpedo and was being taken to the Sher-e-Bangla naval base.

It will be tested by the Bangladesh Navy, he added.

A torpedo is a type of self-propelled weapon used by naval forces. It carries explosive warheads under or above the water and can detonate after approaching or hitting to a target.

'Torpedo' found floating in Patuakhali canal

A torpedo-like object has been found floating in a canal at Moudubi of Rangabali upazila in Patuakhali.

Locals saw the object in the Bhangar canal near Jahajmara beach around noon on Sunday (April 28).

According to them, it came from the sea and entered the canal.

Seeing the stripes of the Indian flag on the torpedo-like object, locals suspected that it belongs to India.

Police reached the spot after receiving information.

This incident spread panic among the locals but many thronged the area to get a glimpse of the object.

A "torpedo" is an underwater self-propelled explosive. Although historically, the term also referred to rudimentary naval mines and spar torpedoes. These were utilised on an ad hoc basis from the early modern period to the late nineteenth century.

It's a training torpedo, they have bright colors painted on them to help identification.

Or could be some kind of naval beacon.

May have floated in from the sea.

Happens all the time - nothing to do with Indian Navy.

Here is the tri color scheme of Indian national flag:
It is a test torpedo, and it belongs to Bangladesh Navy. The Indian flag has nothing to do with a test torpedo's color. No one puts flag color on a test torpedo where visibility and other aspects are more important. Ask a Bangladesh Navy guy, and he will tell you, as I already said above, that you need confirmation from them as they have the item now. Anyone who served in the Navy can tell you this too.
