Beijing demands โ€˜thorough investigationโ€™ after fatal attack on 5 Chinese nationals in KPโ€™s Bisham

China has demanded a โ€œthorough investigationโ€ after five of its nationals and one Pakistani were killed in an attack on a convoy in Bisham tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwaโ€™s Shangla, according to the regional police chief and a station house officer (SHO).

Reuters quoted Mohammad Ali Gandapur, the regional police chief, as saying that a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a convoy of Chinese engineers which was on its way from Islamabad to their camp in Dasu.

โ€œFive Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver were killed in the attack,โ€ Gandapur said.

The provincial police had reached the spot and launched relief operations. The rest of the people in the convoy have been protected, Gandapur said.

Bisham SHO Bakht Zahir, while talking to Dawn.com, also confirmed that the incident claimed six lives, of which five were Chinese engineers and one was a Pakistani.

China joins probe into Bisham suicide attack on its nationals

Chinese investigators arrived in Pakistan on Friday to join a probe into Tuesdayโ€™s suicide attack in Bisham which claimed the lives of six people, including five Chinese nationals, according to the interior ministry.

The five Chinese engineers โ€” and their Pakistani driver โ€” were killed in the suicide bombing on Tuesday while travelling between Islamabad and a hydroelectric dam construction site in Dasu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The bus was attacked in the Bisham city of KPโ€™s Shangla district.

The attack prompted China to demand a thorough probe into the deadly blast and security for its citizens. In response, Islamabad announced a swift probe to hold the โ€œperpetrators and accomplicesโ€ accountable.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met a Chinese team of investigators at Beijingโ€™s embassy in Islamabad today and briefed them on the investigation so far, Reuters quoted a ministry statement as saying.
