A retired Lt. General of the Indian army has threatened Bangladesh that any military infrastructure near Siliguri corridor will be demolished. He also advocated for conducting a military campaign like 'Operation Sindoor' against Bangladesh. It surprises me that a WW2-era airbase could create such a panic in the Indian armed forces.

Not panic but a warning to a friendly nation who has started behaving like enemy after regime change. We are not afraid at all. Pakistan invited China into Balochistan. They had a big plan of 120 billion US dollars of investment. Now see what we did to that. China lost 60 billion dollars. Pakistan lost Balochistan and we are enjoying here seeing as if we don't have any connection with those developments. We inflicted the damage at a fraction of the cost. What I want to say is that we don't need any military actions to set many things right. Our air intelligence can execute that as a low cost option.

বাংলাদেশ লালমনিরহাট বিমানবন্দর চালু করলে ‘পাল্টা ব্যবস্থা’ হিসেবে ভারত তাদের ত্রিপুরা রাজ্যের কৈলাশহরের তিন দশকের পুরোনো বিমানঘাঁটি চালু করবে। মঙ্গলবার (২৭ মে) এক প্রতিবেদনে এ তথ্য জানিয়েছে ভারতীয় সংবাদমাধ্যম এনডিটিভি।

গণমাধ্যমটির বিশেষ প্রতিনিধি রত্নদ্বীপ চৌধুরীর করা এই প্রতিবেদনে দাবি করা হয়েছে, চীনের সহযোগিতায় দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের সময়কার লালমনিরহাট বিমানবন্দর পুনরায় চালু করার পরিকল্পনা করছে বাংলাদেশ।

গতকাল সোমবার সেনাসদরে এক ব্রিফিংয়ে বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনীর মিলিটারি অপারেশন্স অধিদপ্তরের পরিচালক ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল মো. নাজিম-উদ-দৌলা জানান, দীর্ঘদিন অব্যবহৃত থাকা লালমনিরহাট বিমানবন্দরটি প্রয়োজনীয়তার ভিত্তিতে সচল করা হচ্ছে। তিনি সঙ্গে এও জানান, চীনা কোনো সংস্থা বিমানবন্দরটি ব্যবহার করবে কি না এ ব্যাপারে তাদের কাছে কোনো তথ্য নেই। তবে ভারতীয় মিডিয়ায় বলা হচ্ছে, চীনের সহযোগিতায় এটি সচলের পরিকল্পনা করা হচ্ছে।

এনডিটিভি বলেছে, রংপুর বিভাগের লালমনিরহাট বিমানবন্দরটি সচল করার বিষয়টি ভারতীয় প্রশাসনে সতর্কতা তৈরি করেছে। কারণ তাদের আশঙ্কা, এখানে চীনের সামরিক বাহিনীর অবকাঠামো থাকবে। যা ভারত-বাংলাদেশ সীমান্ত থেকে মাত্র ২০ কিলোমিটার দূরে অবস্থিত। তারা আরও বেশি উদ্বিগ্ন কারণ ভারতের কথিত ‘চিকেন নেক’ লালমনিরহাট থেকে মাত্র ২০ কিলোমিটার দূরে। এই চিকেন নেক দিয়ে ভারতের মূল ভূখণ্ড থেকে দেশটির উত্তরপূর্বাঞ্চলীয় সেভেন সিস্টার্স রাজ্যে পণ্য আনা নেওয়ার কাজ করা হয়।

প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়েছে, যদি চীনের সহযোগিতায় বাংলাদেশ বিমানবন্দরটি পুনরায় সচল করে তাহলে সেখানে চীন তাদের সামরিক সরঞ্জাম— যুদ্ধবিমান, রাডার ও নজরদারির সরঞ্জামসহ বিভিন্ন কিছু রাখতে পারে বলে ভারত ধারণা করছে।

আর চীনের এই সম্ভাব্য উপস্থিতির কারণে ভারত ত্রিপুরার তিন দশক পুরোনো ওই ঘাঁটি পুনরায় চালু করবে। যদিও এটি বেসামরিক কাজের জন্য চালু করা হবে। তবে এটিতে থাকা অবকাঠামো উন্নত করা হবে যেন যুদ্ধবিমান ও সাধারণ বিমান ওঠানামা করতে পারে এবং যুদ্ধ বাঁধলে এটির মাধ্যমে জ্বালানি সরবরাহ করা যায়।

এনডিটিভির এ প্রতিবেদনে আরও বলা হয়েছে, সাবেক স্বৈরাচার প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা ছিলেন ভারতের একজন ‘মূল্যবান মিত্র’। যিনি ভারতের উত্তরপূর্বাঞ্চলে চীনের ঘেঁষার ক্ষেত্রে বাধা হয়ে ছিলেন। কিন্তু ছাত্র আন্দোলনে তার পতনের পর ড. মুহাম্মদ ইউনূসের নেতৃত্বে অন্তর্বর্তী সরকার গঠিত হয়, যেটি ভারতের প্রতি ‘কম বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ’। এছাড়া ড. ইউনূস চীন ও পাকিস্তানের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কোন্নয়নের পক্ষে, সেটিও প্রতিবেদনে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে।

সংবাদমাধ্যমটি বলেছে, ভারতীয় সীমান্ত থেকে মাত্র কয়েক মিনিটের দূরত্বে বাংলাদেশের বিমানবন্দর পুনরায় চালুর বিষয়টি ভারতের জন্য বেশ উদ্বেগের।

লালমনিরহাটে বিমানবন্দর পুনরায় চালু হওয়ার আলোচনা চলার মধ্যেই গতকাল ২৬ মে কৈলাশহর বিমানঘাঁটিতে একটি ভারতীয় প্রতিনিধি দল গিয়েছিল বলে জানিয়েছে এনডিটিভি। সেখানে তারা বিমানবন্দরটির বর্তমান অবস্থা পর্যবেক্ষণ করেছেন। পরবর্তীতে ওই দলটি সাংবাদিকদের জানান, বিমানবন্দর নিয়ে ‘রাজ্য সরকারের সঙ্গে আলোচনা করে পরবর্তী পরিকল্পনা ঠিক করা হবে।’

If India re-activates Kailashahar Airbase opposite SreeMangal in Sylhet, Bangladesh. then Bangladesh has plenty of options. Sylhet itself can be used to neutralize nearby Kumbhigram and Barapani forward airbases including Kailashahar in very short order. That leaves Tezpur farther North in Assam, which will be a harder challenge, as it is heavily defended with SU-30 MKI's and also Rafales.

And there are other Bangladeshi airbases and defence installations nearby too, for which I will not go into detail. Let the Indians start, and let them taste the response from Bangladesh.

What I don't get is that India had Bagdogra AB near the Siliguri border for ages, and now when we reactivate Lalmonirhat, which is no more of a distance than Bagdogra to the border, they raise a big hue and cry.

I think they just have to deal with the change of scene and circumstances.

I hoped that BD might have learned some lesson from operation sindoor but BD is full provocation mode regards to India. Best of luck to BD. Be prepared to be in a position much worse than Pakistan.
